Action against Hunger is an international non-governmental, private, apolitical, non-religious and non-profit organization created in 1979. Its goal is to combat hunger and dangerous situations that threaten men, women and children. Currently 500 expats and more than 5,000 employees are working for Action against Hunger in more than forty-six countries working in projects concerning four areas of focus: nutrition, health, food security and water and sanitation. 

In Lebanon, the Syrian crisis continues to generate political, social and economic pressure due to the war in Lebanon and keeps more than 1.5 million refugees in a situation of increasing vulnerability. In this environment of political, economic and social uncertainty, our teams have maintained their high levels of humanitarian response and aid to Lebanon. Likewise, our interventions have been maintained in the Bekaa and northern areas, as well as in the south of the country, with a special focus on working in partnership or in consortium with other organizations and on institutional strengthening of the relationship with both donors. institutional, such as with local authorities and entities.

Position Title: MEAL Volunteer

Under the supervision of the MEAL Manager, the MEAL Volunteer will contribute to the effective implementation of MEAL activities by supporting data collection, documentation, and community engagement efforts in the South. The volunteer will be responsible for responding to right holders' inquiries through various communication channels, conducting field and phone-based surveys, accurately recording data using standardized tools, and maintaining thorough documentation of feedback and complaints. The volunteer is expected to escalate complex cases to MEAL staff, maintain confidentiality, and assist in organizing feedback sessions. Additional responsibilities include supporting data entry, cleaning, and preliminary analysis. Coordination with program teams is essential to ensure data collection aligns with ongoing activities and that timely reporting is achieved. The role demands adherence to established protocols to guarantee the quality and reliability of data collected.

The Community Mobilizer will be responsible for the below:

1. Support accurate and timely data collection 
2. Conduct field and phone-based surveys using tools such as KoboToolbox and ODK.
3. Accurately record responses and submit data promptly and assist in verifying beneficiary information and triangulating data.
4. Report any discrepancies or challenges encountered during data collection to the MEAL team.
5. Enhance community engagement and feedback. 
6. Responding to right holders' inquiries via phone, in-person visits, or other communication channels.
7. Facilitate the documentation and classification of feedback and complaints, and support community sessions aimed at capturing perceptions, suggestions, and grievances.
8. Escalate unresolved or sensitive issues to the MEAL Officer or Manager, and strengthen skills in digital data collection, feedback management, and reporting.
9. Gain hands-on experience in humanitarian MEAL systems and tools
10. Participate in daily debriefings and coordination meetings with MEAL and program staff.
11. Strengthen MEAL documentation and reporting by assisting in data entry and preliminary data cleaning, maintaining organized records of surveys, complaints, and community feedback.
12. Contribute to internal MEAL reporting and sharing of lessons learned.

Training/ Education: Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Statistics, or related field.

Technical specific knowledge:

• Experience in conducting surveys, data collection, or community engagement
• Basic knowledge of data collection tools (KoboToolbox, ODK, or similar)

Previous experience: Field experience in assessments, data gathering, and professional interaction with right holders.

Humanitarian sector knowledge: 

• Good knowledge of INGOs and donor agencies procedure, guidelines, and intervention in the country and particularly in the South
• Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, and diplomacy
• Communication skills to engage with refugees and vulnerable populations
• Organizational and methodical approach
• Patience, flexibility, and open-mindedness

Action Against the Hunger knowledge: Previous knowledge of Action Against Hunger policies, strategy, and previous interventions in the country is desirable.

Languages: English and Arabic (compulsory working languages, fluent spoken and written)

IT and specific systems: Good command of Microsoft Office Suite, Kobo Toolbox, ODK.

Duty Station: The duty station is officially the Tyre office, from Monday to Friday, with an expected support of 6 hours per day.

A lumpsum of $750 monthly covering CM expenses related to transportation, telephone communications, meals, and beverages.
