Action Against Hunger seeks to contribute to the socioeconomic development of Egypt’s poorest populations through a multisectoral approach, while also supporting refugees and migrants living alongside Egyptian communities. The organization was operational in Egypt from 2015 to 2019 and is now resuming activities in the country, based on its technical expertise and previous experience and network.
The organization focuses on three main areas of intervention. First, in food security and livelihoods for rural areas, it works to improve agricultural conditions for small and medium farming households, including crops, horticulture, and livestock production. Additionally, the organization promotes job diversification and entrepreneurship for youth through training and the creation or consolidation of micro, small, and medium businesses outside agriculture. In urban areas, Action Against Hunger aims to enhance income generation through equipment, training, and improved access to markets. It supports youth, women, and men in creating businesses and accessing employment and development services. Secondly, in the water, sanitation, and hygiene sector, the organization strengthens capacities for good practices and rehabilitates infrastructure, manages solid waste, and promotes hygiene through schools, clinics, and community leaders. Research into innovative water practices is conducted to adapt to climate change and protect the environment. Finally, in health and nutrition, Action Against Hunger Spain monitors child growth and maternal health, prevents malnutrition during the first 1,000 days of life, and promotes breastfeeding, it strengthens the capacities of health personnel and community health workers and addresses the nutritional needs of adolescents, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
To achieve these objectives, the organization collaborates with Egyptian ministries such as Agriculture, Environment, Social Solidarity, and Health, as well as local authorities, NGOs, universities, the private sector, and international organizations.
