To further strengthen Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programmes (TSFP) and  Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) activities delivered at heath facilities and mother and baby friendly spaces (MBSFs), Action Against Hunger is seeking skilled and motivated Nutrition Assistants (IYCF).

Participate in screening activities at health facilities, Mother and Baby Friendly Spaces and within the community, to identify PBWGs suffering from malnutrition. 

  • Provide treatment for malnutrition amongst PWFGs, by enrolling identified cases in the TSFP programme, provide rations of RUCF, and conduct regular follow up visits to ensure improvement of nutritional status. 
  • Implement awareness raising activities such as group and individual counselling, focused on delivering key IYCF messages, to raise awareness about adequate maternal nutrition, and adequate infant feeding practices.

Key activities in your role will include

This position is field based and the selected candidates will present directly to the field. 

Under the supervision of the IYCF Counsellor, the Nutrition Assistant (IYCF) is responsible for:

•Work closely with mothers, caregivers, pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under two, to support breastfeeding and promote adequate infant and young child feeding practices as well as maternal nutrition.
•Work closely with IYCF counsellors to improve awareness about maternal nutrition, and adequate infant and young child feeding practices within the wider community.
•Screen mothers for acute malnutrition and conduct follow up visits to support and monitor improvement of nutritional status.
•Facilitate distributions of nutritional supplements, and ready to use complementary foods, to support maternal and child nutrition.
•Facilitate activities at Mother and baby Friendly Spaces and within other areas of implementation.
•Support activity documentation by collecting daily activity data using ACFs internal data collection tools. Support the nutrition team with additional tasks whenever required.
•Candidates must be comfortable to work directly within communities and facilities such as health centers or temporary shelters.
•Travelling to various locations is essential for this role, since weekly activity plans might vary. Ethical Considerations
•Ensure all activities are implemented considering women’s and children’s safety and privacy.
•Ensure all activities are implemented with strict adherence to ACFs, GBV, PSEA and safeguarding policies.
•Ensure adherence to organizational data protection policies and ethical guidelines.

Do you meet the profile required criteria?

This position is open to current active ACF Daily Workers only. 

  • Training in health-related fields such as nursing, midwifery, maternal and child health and nutrition or similar.
  • Strong knowledge about Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), Breastfeeding Support and Counselling, and general maternal and child nutrition.
  • Knowledge about identification and treatment programmes for malnutrition is a plus.
  • Proficient in using smartphones or tablets for data collection. Familiarity with KOBO Collect, ODK, or similar mobile data collection platforms.
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g., MS Excel, Word).
