Action Against Hunger is recruiting for the Gaza Strip a
Nutrition Medical Officer
For a period of 6 months
General Objective:
The Nutrition Medical Officer is responsible for ensuring the overall quality of clinical care within AAH nutrition and health program. Additionally, this position will be responsible for ensuring alignment with internal and external clinical guidelines, reviewing the overall performance of the program, and supporting continuing medical education to the staff in the program.
Objective 1: Program Implementation & Quality Assurance
Enforce adherence to national/agency protocols (triage, admission/discharge criteria, follow up) and use of quality checklists.
Plan and conduct regular supportive supervision to all nutrition teams, with a focus on the community management of acute malnutrition program
Ensure appropriate infection prevention and control (IPC) processes, hygiene and patient safety standards during outreach and facility-based activities.
Promote AAH technical policies, position papers, modules, guidelines, and protocols among the members of the department.
Ensure the accuracy and completeness of patient health records within the facility and on the computerized data management system.
Analyze key indicators (screening coverage, prevalence, referral timeliness, recovery/defaulter rates, stock outs) and provide feedback on corrective actions.
Any other task required to achieve the project objective or fall within the mandate of AAH.
Objective 2: Referrals & Case Management
Guarantee rapid identification of complicated/severe cases and safe referral to the appropriate facility; maintain updated referral/contra referral pathways and contacts.
Track referral outcomes (arrival, admission, treatment, discharge) and address internal and external bottlenecks.
Coordinate closely with AAH partners and other key health partners to ensure patients access necessary services.
Escalate medical emergencies according to the clinical escalation protocol; participate in case reviews and morbidity/mortality meetings when required.
Objective 3: External Coordination and Strategic Planning
Coordinate with relevant health and nutrition stakeholders, with a particular focus on technical health counterpart.
Support in the selection of sites for Action Against Hunger’s programming.
Contribute to the contextual analysis of Action Against Hunger’s programming and support strategic planning of activities.
To collect and update information on nutrition indicators, actors, and activities nationwide for analysis and identification potential areas, partners, and priority activities.
Objective 4: Capacity Building
Develop corrective action plans and provide on-the-job coaching and document lessons learned and good practices.
Assess capacity gaps; design and deliver training/refreshers on relevant nutrition topics.
Implement competency assessments and field mentoring; maintain training records and certification/recertification.
Provide technical assistance and orientation to the rest of the nutrition and health staff.
Required:
Medical Doctor (Further specialisations in clinical nutrition, paediatrics and internal medicine preferred).
Experience working in programs or facilities providing treatment of acute malnutrition in children and adults.
English and Arabic.
Highly preferred:
Previous experience 2 years supervising nursing/community teams, serving as medical team leader, clinic/facility supervisor, or similar position.
Additional training or experience in epidemiology and biostatistical analysis.
Previous experiences with external engagement, coordination and representation
Windows; MS Office (Excel/Word/PPT); strong Excel for data cleaning/analysis; Kobo/ODK.
Valuable prior experience in issues related to the promotion of gender equality or personal commitment to gender equality.
